May Month of Mary

The month of May is also known as the Marian Month.

The Consecration of St. Aloysius Parish to Mary, Mother of the Church, took place Friday May 1st during the 9am Mass at St. Aloysius. The Consecratory Prayer was prayed by Father Melvin; prepared by the National Liturgy Office of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops. The prayer is being prayed at Dioceses across Canada and the U.S. for protection during this devastating pandemic. Families are invited to pray it in their own homes. The prayer is available here to download:

May is the month when Catholics all over the World express love and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. In honour of this, Pope Francis recently published a letter addressed to all Faithful for the month of May. He encourages everyone to pray the Rosary at home and offers two prayers to be recited at home in light of the restrictions in place as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic

The Litany of Loreto may also be useful to accompany prayers to the Blessed Mother.

The St. Aloysius CWL has prepared a special message to everyone as we celebrate the month of May;

May is the month of Mary our Mother – what better way than to recite the rosary every day to honour her.  Did you know that when we pray the rosary, we say these words so many times:

Mary – 107; Jesus – 59;  Pray – 54;    Lord – 53;  Forgive – 30; Deliver us – 6;

Thy will be done – 6;      Save us – 5.

We know words have power.  No wonder the Rosary is such a powerful prayer!

The following are single verses of popular hymns to Our Lady.  To honour and remember her, perhaps we could, after recitation of the rosary, sing a verse?  Sing out LOUD!  There are 4 hymns.

Hail, Queen of Heaven, the Ocean Star,
Guide of the wanderer here below,
Thrown on life’s surge, we claim thy care,
Save us from peril and from woe.
Mother of Christ, Star of the sea
Pray for the wanderer, pray for me.

Hail, Mother of mercy and of love, O Maria!

Triumph all ye cherubim!

Sing with us ye seraphim!

Heaven and earth resound the hymn!

Salve, salve, salve, Regina!

Mother Dearest Mother Fairest

Help of all who call on thee

Virgin purest brightest, rarest

Help us help we to cry to thee.

Mary help us help we pray

Mary help us help we pray.

Help us in all care and sorrow

Mary help us help we pray

Gentle Woman quiet light

Morning star so strong and bright

Gentle mother peaceful dove

Teach us wisdom teach love.

You were chosen by the Father

You were chosen for the Son

You were chosen from all women

And for woman Shining One!
