“Truly this man was God’s Son!”

IMG-20160719-WA0008Passion (Palm) Sunday comes to us so quickly again. The past days of Lent have been a great help for us to know ourselves better. The life and teachings of Jesus have enabled us to know the value of our human life lived in its proper dignity. We would have come to know by this time that the life we live is not our own, rather it has come as a great gift from God and when we live it with all perfection, we become true children of God and close followers of His Son, Jesus. Let us be grateful to God for this time of grace we had in the Church.

On this Passion Sunday we are invited again to have a close encounter with the sufferings, passion and death of Jesus. Every human person has the experience of suffering and pain; so also was the experience of Jesus, the Word made flesh. In His physical body He had to undergo persecution, mockery, scourging and finally a humiliating death on the cross. That wasn’t the end of it; He defeated the greatest of all enemies, death itself.

As we enter into this Holy Week again, let us be united with the Suffering Jesus who is the perfect resemblance of the Servant of the Lord as prophesied by Isaiah. Let us again enter into Jerusalem with Jesus with all praises, but not forget to climb the mountain of Calvary to experience the death of Jesus. Having come to the end of our Lenten journey with our spiritual discipline and religious observances, we say in the words of the centurion “Truly this man was God’s Son!” We learn this from the passion narrative of St. Mark who begins and ends his Gospel with the acknowledgement that Jesus is the Son of God. Filled with the power of the cross of Jesus, let us become His living witnesses as sons and daughters of God in this world.
